Host Links and Gweb R6.4 is available

Host Links and Gweb 6.4.0 is now available.

This release makes Ggate the perfect Mainway replacement supporting TNVIP, Async Telnet and SSL protocols on commodity platforms. It also introduces GSFTP as a transparent gateway between SFTP and FTP clients and servers and Gspool Monitor for easy administration of Bull mainframe printing.

Ggate as a MainWay replacement
Ggate's support for TNVIP and Telnet clients is now compatible with the MainWay TNVIP and Telnet servers. Migrate to a commodity platform, which in addition to having a lower cost of ownership also offers high performance and security options.

Secure file transfer (SFTP)
If there is no SFTP client/server available for your mainframe platform (for example GCOS) GSFTP can be installed on an internal platform to act as a transparent gateway between your FTP client/server and external SFTP client/servers in the outside world.

Monitor for mainframe print jobs
Gspool Monitor gives a user-friendly overview of print jobs and their status.

Features of this release:

  • Support for the 64 bit AMD/Intel x64_86, Windows 2003
  • GSFTP gateway between FTP and SFTP (secure FTP)
  • Gspool Monitor for administration of host print jobs
  • Ggate SSL support for all client protocols
  • Ggate message broadcast to all clients
  • Ggate support for TNVIP local dialog
  • Ggate 'hold session on disconnect' for Glink
  • Ggate Monitor messaging to clients
  • DSA configuration filter for SSL certificate content
  • Gspool insert of file before the print data
  • Gmanager start of Ggate and Gspool monitors
  • Glink for Java server licenses for Glink for Windows
  • Gweb Web8 and TDS-Web support for HTTP 1.1
  • Gweb web server SSL options

Features in more detail

Support for the 64 bit AMD/Intel x64_86, Windows 2003

This adds another 64 bit platform to the range of powerful servers supported by Host Links. The list is now:

  • Intel Itanium 2, Linux kernel 2.x
  • Intel Itanium 2, Windows 2003
  • AMD/Intel x64_86, Linux kernel 2.x, Windows 2003
  • Hewlett-Packard, HP-UX 11i v2

Companies looking for efficient, scalable and reliable network infrastructure solutions can now take advantage of the power offered by the next generation of servers. This release responds to the needs of the growing generation of highly demanding business applications and infrastructures including highly secure Internet environments with SSL encryption of network traffic.

Of course Host Links continues to offer high performance on a range of 32 bit platforms.

GSFTP gateway between FTP and SFTP (secure FTP)

GSFTP is a transparent gateway between two different File Transfer protocols: FTP (RFC 959) and SFTP (the SSH File Transfer Protocol). The purpose is to present a seamless integration between the two protocols, with automatic conversion. The gateway runs on any UNIX/Linux platform supported by Host Links. In general, the gateway can be used inside any data center to connect an internal standard FTP client/server to external SFTP clients/servers, securing the transfer of files between the data center and the outside world. Typically, a GCOS data center would install GSFTP on an internal platform to provide secure communication between the standard GCOS FTP client/server and external SFTP client/servers.

Gspool Monitor for administration of host print jobs

Administration of host print jobs has been dramatically improved in this release with the introduction of a monitor for Gspool. Gspool Monitor is a Windows-only utility program that provides the administrator with a single administrative entry point for monitoring all Gspool sessions. The administrator can check all sessions, verifying that print reports received by Gspool have been successfully transferred and properly handled at the final destination.

GGATE SSL support for all client protocols

We continue our investment in security for our Host Links customers. In previous releases SSL was only supported for clients using native Ggate protocol (generally Glink). In this release Ggate also supports SSL for TNVIP and Telnet clients.

Ggate message broadcast to all clients

Administration of Host Links is again improved by adding messaging to Ggate. Ggate supports a new operator command (through the Gmanager command interface) that makes it possible to send a message to all clients that have an active session.

Ggate support for TNVIP local dialog

Ggate now supports the TNVIP 'local dialog' protocol feature. In both Terminal manager mode and menu mode local dialog during a session brings up the $*$ prompt. You can then enter any of the $*$ responses.

Ggate 'hold session on disconnect' for Glink

Does your application send host print at night, or while you are at lunch? The option for keeping the session with Ggate after disconnecting from the mainframe application has been extended to apply to native Ggate sessions. For native Glink/Ggate sessions the screen session is disconnected as before, but the printer session, if any, is left connected to Ggate. This means that any print jobs initiated on the mainframe that connect out to your Glink printer will be able to connect and deliver print, even though your screen session is disconnected.

Ggate Monitor Messaging to clients

Administration of Host Links is again improved by adding messaging to the Ggate monitor. The monitor is able to send a message to a particular session, all sessions owned by a given user or all sessions for all users.

DSA configuration filter for SSL certificate content

G&R servers have for some time supported SSL for authentication of the server and/or client, and secure communication between them. Now you can use the content of the client's SSL certificate to secure access to GCOS log-on parameters in your DSA configuration file, gauranteeing that only the authenticated client can use the configured parameters to connect to your GCOS application. The FILTER directive in dsa.cfg has a new filter option. The option permits or denies access to dsa.cfg resources based on the presence of a specified string in the clients SSL certificate. You can use the filter to permit or deny access to a complete connection name (CONAME), to a set of GCOS connection parameters (PARAMS) or to a pool of of Userids, LIDs or other connection parameters (POOL).

Gline allows multiple Glinks with the same printer mailbox

Glink printer configuration can be simplified by allowing multiple Glinks to use the same printer mailbox name. Any print jobs connecting out to the mailbox name will be printed via the first Glink that was started with that printer mailbox name.

Gproxy Alarm log displays latest first

Your administration of Host Links has been simplified and improved. Gproxy now uses a circular alarm stack, with the latest alarms displayed first. The alarm log is cleared at Gproxy startup time.

Gspool insert of file before the print data

Gspool can insert the content of a local data file before the print data is delivered to the local spooling system. This functionality can be used to insert a bitmap before the print data (a typical application is to insert a print 'logo macro').

Gmanager gathers debug information

The Gmanager tools menu can now launch a utility that gathers all Host Links debugging information into a single archive, greatly simplifying error reporting.

Gmanager start of Ggate and Gspool monitors

Again improving Host Links administration, the Gmanager tools menu can now launch Ggate Monitor and Gspool Monitor.

Glink for Java server licenses for Glink for Windows

You can now combine Glink for Java and Glink for Windows in a single license for the combined number of sessions. The Glink for Java server can now dispense licenses to Glink for Windows Enterprise Edition clients.

Gweb Web8 and TDS-Web support for HTTP 1.1

Web8/TDS-Web support has been extended to support HTTP version 1.1 request and response headers. The Web8 response headers are now also passed on transparently to the browser.

Gweb visual attributes extended

The technique used for applying visual attributes on form elements in the browser has been extended. The CSS class names now differentiate between fixed and variable fields.

Gweb web server listens on IP address list

Your web server configuration flexibility is improved by allowing GwebS to listen on a list of IP addresses. The default is to listen on all addresses as before, but the 'Listen IP-addresses' directive can now be used to give a space-separated list of IP addresses.

Gweb web server SSLOptions

A further investment in security for our Host Links customers opens access to the complete range of SSL options offered by OpenSSL. The "-sslopt xxx, yyy" parameter is an interface to OpenSSL SSL_CTX_set_options e.g. to disable SSL v.2 and v.3 you would use:
-sslopt NoSSLv2,NoSSLv3
