Glink Professional Edition, enhanced 7.1.2 is available
Glink Professional Edition, update 7.1.2 is now available. Your local distributor can download it for installation on production sites. This update is available free of charge to customers with a service contract for Glink Professional. Customers with no service contract must purchase a license upgrade. Customers with Glink standard edition (pre-R7) must contact their distributor for migration details.
Please note that this update includes some important enhancements!
This release is primarily a maintenance release that corrects errors detected in the original 7.1.0 release.
The details of errors corrected are documented in the known error pages of our web server, and are listed in the announcement for our technical list.
Maintenance release 7.1.2 contains several enhancements we felt were important to get out into the field now rather than wait for the next major release of Glink. This is a rare exception to our normal policy of including only error corrections in maintenance releases.
The major enhancements are:
and many minor enhancements:
Dialog boxes use Tahoma fonts as do MS Office and Windows XP
If Tahoma fonts are available on your PC then Glink will use them in all dialog boxes. The Tahoma font give improved readability. An option has also been added to allow you to increase the size of font used, see the relevant section below.
Documentation is available in PDF format with XP style images
We have made a full set of the Glink documentation available for download in PDF format. These are large files. Your distributor may include these on the Glink delivery media (if they deliver a CD). The PDF files have been generated from an updated version of the original Glink 7.1 Word documentation. The main improvement is that all the Glink snapshot images have been updated to reflect the new Tahoma fonts and have been taken using the Windows XP style desktop. Please note that there is no significant content change between the PDF and the original 7.1 documentation.
New GlinkFTP on-line help
Full on-line help for the FTP client is included with this release including snap-shots taken using the Windows XP style desktop.
Configurable Tahoma font size, 8, 10, 12
A new option has been added in Settings->Windows appearance to allow you to choose the size of font to be used in dialog boxes.
Option for interactive choice of printer first time it's used
A new option in Settings->Printer->Option has been added to tell Glink to display a dialog box allowing you to select the printer you wish to use for that session.
Improved attribute suppression in 3D/DKU mode
Logic has been added to the DKU emulation and Glink 3D display so as to improve the look of DKU Forms in 3D mode display. Many DKU Forms use visual attributes such as inverse video and underline to highlight variable fields. However, because of the way the DKU works, these attributes extend by at least one character beyond the end of the variable field, and often bfore it. This has a very undesirable effect when Glink is set up for 3D display mode, as the visual effects protrude on either side of the 3D effect within the field. This new option is set by default in Settings->Screen->Facelifting: Fix DKU attributes, but can be turned off if required.
'Print variables' function added to GLLAY
It is now possible to configure the Glink internal 'Print variables' function using the GLLAY utility for configuring Glink keyboard layouts.
Dependence on some security (SSL) DLLs is removed (Win9x)
Glink now dynamically loads all the required Secure Socket Layer (SSL) DLLs if SSL is configured. This means that Glink no longer has any dependencies if SSL is not to be used and can execute directly on standard Win95/98 PCs. The security DLLs must of course be present if SSL is to be used, please consult the Glink online help for details.
Dependence on WinInet DLLs is removed (Win95)
Glink now dynamically loads the WinInet DLLs when needed, making it possible to run Glink on standard Win95 PCs.
CFIXable option for high TCP port allocate (CFXW 3489 30000)
An advanced CFIXable option has been added to allow you to configure a starting port number that Glink will use when allocating its local port number. This option has been added to work around badly programmed 3rd party software that closes sockets incorrectly when exiting or when the system is shut down; leaving some remote servers hanging on to "zombie" ports.
Improved Rlogin port allocation logic
Rlogin port allocation has been improved so as to decrease the chance of port number clashes when multiple Glink sessions are in use. This will only really affect Citrix/WinFrame users as it will increase capacity from 50 to about 500 sessions.
Added script FTP COMMAND (FTP COMMAND "dele myfile")
A new FTP script command has been added to allow you to execute other FTP Server commands not directly supported by the script language such as GET, PUT, OPEN, VIEW, EDIT. FTP COMMAND <command> allows you to execute the remote FTP command. The <command> syntax is FTP server dependent.
Improved demo script
The Glink demo script installed in:
and which has a shortcut icon created in the Glink Professional program group has been greatly improved, please try it for more details!
Force mono mode when DKU7107 selected
If DKU7107 mode is selected monochrome mode is now forced.
Force selection of DKU model from TNVIP/Ggate terminal type
Glink now automatically reconfigures the correct DKU model corresponding to the configured Terminal type specified in the TNVIP or Ggate configuration options.
Display VTxxx type in status line corresponding to Telnet type
Glink now displays the corresponding VT model as the configured Terminal type specified in the Telnet configuration options.
New $PETX, $PETY, $PSTX, $PSTY builtin variables
Some new internal script variables have been added, $PSTX, $PSTY, $PETX, $PETY which give the X and Y coordinates for the start and end of transmission pointers for the most recent transmit. The values they return can be used directly in the RSBK command.
Improved Welcome/Demo dialog box
The Welcome and Demo dialog boxes have been improved so that the Glink splash screen gets displayed in the best possible format on all display and desktop configurations.
